Scene: We’re all in the kitchen; Dave is cooking dinner and I just got a can of cashews out of the pantry.
Mitchell: Those are Daddy’s peanuts.
Me: It’s OK. Daddy said I could have some.
Mitchell: Those are Daddy’s peanuts.
Me: It’s OK with Daddy if I have some.
Mitchell: It’s dinnertime. You eat one.
(Takes the can of cashews from me and takes out one cashew.)
Mitchell: Here. (He hands the one cashew to me.)
Then he put the lid back on the cashews and put them back in the pantry.
Scene: 6am; Mitchell has just woken up.
Mitchell: Mommy, I want a hotdog.
Me: Hotdogs aren’t for breakfast. You can have muffins or a cereal bar.
Mitchell. OK. No eat hotdogs for breakfast.
Scene: 6am; I’m trying to wake Mitchell up to get ready for school.
Mitchell: Stop touching me. I’m sleeping.
Scene: 6am; I’m trying to wake Mitchell up to get ready for school.
Mitchell: I need my blankies, school buses, trucks and books. Where’s my milk? Thomas is over (he listened to his Thomas CD as he was falling asleep the night before).
Scene: 8pm; Mitchell and I are lying in bed.
Mitchell: Where’s Daddy?
Me: Downstairs.
Mitchell: Is he in the car? It’s not car time. It’s sleep time.
Scene: 6am the next morning.
Mitchell: Sleep time is over.
