The last day of school

Mitchell's last day of school was Friday, May 22nd. (Yes, I know I'm almost a month late posting to my blog about it.)

The morning started out with donuts with our neighbors.

The Carpool Gang

The end of school party started at 12:30. They did a craft and had a snack of cupcakes and fruit. Then it was time for the entertainment. Mitchell's teacher, Ms. Butler, led the children in saying "The Pledge of Allegiance". Then they sang "My Country 'tis of Thee".

Next was the kids' favorite song -- "Tooty Ta" by Dr. Jean. (You can search for "tooty ta" on YouTube and find several videos of preschool children singing this song.) It's hilarious to see it performed. It's a progressive song where the children start out by putting their thumbs up. Then it's thumbs up, elbows back. Then it's thumbs up, elbows back, feet apart. With each sequence, the children dance around doing the "Tooty Ta". It gets harder as the children have to put their knees together, bottoms up, close their eyes and stick out their tongue.

Then Ms. Butler and Ms. Rojas presented each child with a "yearbook". They called each child to come up to the front of the class, get their yearbook and "graduate" to kindergarten. The yearbooks contained a letter from Ms. Butler as well as a picture of the child on the first day of school and on the next to the last day of school.

Then you could see how much your child had grown from August until May. He barely reached the yellow label on the cabinet door in August.

Sadly, Ms. Butler is leaving Esther Jackson. I'm sad that she won't be able to see Mitchell get taller, learn more and progress through the grades at his school. He had a great year and is ready to tackle kindergarten now!
