One month from today

We will be celebrating Mitchell’s 2nd birthday!

Exactly one year ago today…Mitchell took his first steps.
Two years ago…we were anxiously awaiting our son’s arrival. We were putting the finishing touches on the nursery, taking classes and packing our bags for the hospital.
Three years ago…we had been in our new house for almost 1 month.
Four years ago…we had less than 6 months to go until our wedding day.
Five years ago…????
Six years ago…I was living in Raleigh and planning a surprise 30th birthday party for Kerri.

And every year on this day, we celebrate Aunt Kerri’s birthday!

Happy Birthday Kerri!!!

So what has Mitchell been up to? He had a re-check on is ears on Monday afternoon. His ears were perfectly clear. He weighed 33 lbs, 3 ounces. We go on November 18th for his 2-year checkup.

Mitchell is really into vehicles right now. He has a vehicle puzzle that he started playing with several months ago. He would bring us the pieces and ask us what each piece was. So he learned some new words…school bus, fire truck, police car, motorcycle, ice cream truck and a few others. One time he brought me a piece and he had the front of it turned toward him so I couldn’t clearly see it. I thought he had picked up the fire truck. But he kept saying “school bus” and I kept saying, “No, Mitchell, it’s the fire truck!” And he just kept saying “school bus”. I was quite embarrassed when I saw the front of the puzzle piece and realized he was right and I was wrong!

Now when we’re driving around, he’ll see trucks, schools buses and other vehicles that he recognizes and he says the names as they pass by. He’ll also say “Bye bye school bus” as the bus drives away from him.

Dave will kill me for writing this, but another thing Mitchell is into is my make-up. I guess he watches me each morning and then he tries to imitate me by getting out my brushes and blush and powder and he tries to brush some on his own face.

But he’s into boy things too. He loves his trucks and just started showing interest in Matchbox cars.

At school, his friends continue to be Zach, Catherine and Avery. When he had a slight ear infection 2 weeks ago, I took him to school after his doctor’s appointment. When we walked in, Zach started yelling his name and pointing and came running over. Catherine and Avery came right over too and were so excited to see him. The early morning teacher told me that Zach kept looking for him that morning. He would say his name and try to go to the door and open it to see if Mitchell was coming yet. Mitchell was being clingy because he had gotten a flu shot and had also fallen asleep in the car briefly. He didn’t want to get down but Zach kept saying, “Mitchell down.” You would think after a welcome like that, he would have been anxious to get down and start playing with his friends!

We’ve spent the last few weekends in town which has given Mitchell an opportunity to play with his neighborhood friends as well as Addy. He likes going to Tara’s house and playing with Christian, who just turned 1, Victoria, who will be 4 in a few months and Kyle, who just turned 6. They have a great backyard where the kids can run around and play and the adults can sit on the patio and visit. I got worried last weekend when Victoria turned on the outside faucet and there was a mud puddle. Thankfully Mitchell didn’t jump in it! But he did go over and turn on the water himself one time. Again, he didn’t play in the mud puddle. Maybe he’s forgotten about mud puddles for the time being! Let’s hope so. He likes to play football at their house as well as hit the ball with the bat. He also “mows” their grass with the plastic lawnmower. He must have picked up on that from watching Dave out the front window of our house. He’ll walk up and down the lawn in lines just like he’s mowing it for real.

Hopefully my next update won't take a month to post! Sorry it's been so long.
