OK, OK…I know it’s been too long since I’ve updated the blog. There really is no excuse! So here we go with some tidbits about what is going on with Mitchell.
His new favorite toy is a school bus. We aren’t sure whose it really is, but it’s not Mitchell’s. Let me explain…one day this school bus appeared in his cubby at school. We left it there since it wasn’t his and told his teachers that it wasn’t his. But it stayed in there day after day and no one claimed it. One day I picked him up from school. He can’t see into his cubby because it’s high up on the wall out of his reach. But I happened to pick him up and he saw the school bus in his cubby and of course he wanted it. So we took it home and it’s been his favorite toy ever since. He goes to sleep with it in his hand. And when he wakes up in the morning and stands up in his crib to let us know he’s up, he has it in his hand. If we bring him in our room and he falls back asleep with it, he’ll sometimes wake up in a “panic” and say school bus and start looking for it. It’s quite humorous (at least for the time being). With our luck, he’s going to lose it and we won’t be able to find another one. Or, he’ll be so in love with school buses now that when it comes time to ride a school bus, he won’t like it! When we see school buses out on the road, he gets all excited and says “school bus”. I just wish we knew where the fascination came from!
Well, Dave wants to tell people that he is a Jerome Bettis fan (nickname the BUS). And since the Super Bowl is on Sunday and the Steelers are playing, we’ll go with that for now! Go Steelers!!
Here is a close up of him holding his bus. He feel alseep in the chair holding it.

Some of his new phrases are “get away” and “cold outside”. He says get away when he doesn’t want us to help him with something. For now it’s cute, but I’m sure the “cuteness” will wear off! He also pushes out his hand to ward us off and says “get away”. He does this when he wants to climb up on our bed and he wants to do it all by himself. He also does it if we get him out of his car seat and stand him on the floorboard of the car. He wants to finish getting out of the car all by himself.
I started telling him it was cold outside when we would have issues with him putting on his jacket. I guess he picked up that phrase and now he’ll say it when we’re dressing him or putting on his socks or just some other random time when he thinks we need a weather update.
Speaking of socks…he likes to take them off and put them on his hands.
He’s started saying “I love you” and it sounds so sweet coming out of his mouth!
He’s learning more of the neighbor’s names. He can say Tara, Chuck and he just started saying Ellen. We joke about how he has Chuck radar because he’ll see Chuck even before we do!
He’s also really good at family names. He started saying his version of Kerri and Sarah. He had already been saying Sydney. His attempts at Grandmother and Granddad and Grandma and Grandpa are so cute!
Mitchell also likes to sing now. His favorites are “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” and “Happy Birthday”. He also tries to sing along with the alphabet song. He gets letters in here and there.
He is also still really enjoying the older toddler class at school. He is ready to go when he gets there each morning. I think it’s a good sign when he tells me bye-bye right after we get in the door!
He’s learning so much now…shapes, numbers, colors, letters and new words all of the time. It’s hard to keep up with what he knows because some thing new comes out of his mouth almost every day now!
