I know I’ve been bad about updating our blog. I guess it’s mainly because there are no “big” stories right now. These days, our lives are made up of little Mitchell-isms.
His favorite perch is still the bay window in our kitchen. He keeps us up-to-date on what is going on outside. When he spots one of the neighbors, he’ll say their name.
He absolutely loves reciting the alphabet. He does it all of the time now (except on demand). He can also count to 13. And it seems like no matter what he is counting, there are always 13 of them.
One weekend as we were coming home from running errands, we saw a guy wearing a blue and red jumpsuit and he was riding a motorcycle. We told Mitchell it was Spiderman. So now whenever we see someone on a motorcycle, he says “There’s Spiderman!”
Mitchell is so polite…just this morning, he said “thank you” after I buckled him into his carseat. He says please, thank you and bless you. He also says “ ‘scuse me Mommy” when he burps.
He is also really big on helping. He likes to carry bags of groceries into the house. He also likes to carry a 12-pack of soft drinks to the kitchen from the basement. This morning, he struggled to get away from me so he could move something that was blocking the basement door. He likes to push the button to open the garage door and he also likes to close it from the remote. He’ll also stand beside the toilet and flush for us.
His favorite book right now is a Sandra Boynton book called “Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs”. I started calling it the opposites book because it’s about dinosaurs who are doing opposite things. Mitchell calls it “octosites” and he loves to read it before bedtime. His favorite page is the one where “bad” dinosaurs are throwing paint and they have paint cans on their heads.
He’s getting quite picky about his clothes now. This morning Dave tried to put a light green shirt on him and he got upset wanting his light green shirt with the octopus on it instead. But it was dirty because he had already worn it once this week. Luckily I was able to tempt him with a green shirt with a soccer ball on it. The key now seems to be to buy clothes that have things that he likes on them.
One of his favorite pastimes now is pulling a kitchen chair over to the sink and playing in the water. He’ll get cups out of the sink and fill them up and pour them out. Dave captured him on camera last night when I was out. He was at the sink with 2 cups. He would fill one of the cups up and then pour it into the other cup. His aim wasn’t so good all of the time and quite a bit of water ended up on the kitchen floor.
His best friend at daycare still seems to be Zachary. When we get to school in the morning, he asks if Zachary is there. If he is there, Mitchell likes to go with Zachary into the infant class and play with Zachary and his baby brother, Luke. This past weekend, he picked up the phone and said “call Zachary”.
He’s pretty good about talking on the phone, but he thinks the person on the other end can see him. He often holds up something to the phone to show the person on the other hand. I picked him up from school yesterday afternoon and when we got home, we called Dave. Mitchell wanted to talk on the phone (or so I thought). He took the phone and then held his hand up to it to show Daddy the stamp on his hand. On Sunday when we talked to Mom and Dad, he held up the shorts to his pajamas and wanted to show them off.
Ever since our trip to Baltimore back in February, he thinks his friend Chase "lives" in the camera. When I pull out the digital camera, he asks to see Chase. I finally printed out a picture of him and Chase together and gave it to him!
At his school today, they had Muffins for Moms and I sat in his room with him in a teeny tiny chair and ate breakfast with my little boy. It was the best breakfast I’ve had in a very long time.
