Doctor's appointment

Mitchell woke up this morning with a swollen eyelid. We weren't sure what caused it and it didn't look like his eye was infected, so I took him to school. I called to check on him mid-morning and they said it was still swollen and the teachers wondered if he had a sty. So I scheduled an appointment with his doctor.

When we got to the parking garage where the doctor's office is, he remembered that there is a bridge from the parking garage to the building and he said, "No run to the bridge, Mommy. I hold your hand, but only one hand, not two hands. OK?" So he held my hand and we headed inside. Of course he had to push the button for the elevator. He said, "I want to do it first." Thank goodness no one had pushed the button prior to us getting to the elevator! He pushed the button for the 5th floor and almost seemed surprised when it actually worked and we ended up at the 5th floor.

When we got called back by the nurse, Mitchell wasn't too happy with the room we ended up with. He remembered that the last time we were there (November) we had a room with a big window and he wanted a room with a window again. He was OK once the nurse pulled out a book about trucks and tractors.

Turns out that he doesn't have a sty or an infection. She said it could turn into a sty and to come back if it gets worse. The swelling had already gone down by this afternoon so hopefully that means his eye is on the mend!

I had a hair appointment at 5:30 so I was getting ready to leave the house after Dave came home from work. Mitchell wanted to come with me at first but I told him it would be more fun to stay home and watch "Diego". He was easily convinced to stay home, but he wanted to walk me out. So he opened the gate for me and then said, "Don't eat the road and watch out for cars." I don't know where he learned to not eat the road...he also said that yesterday when we were at the dentist's office. There are other things he says to not eat...like dirt and wood chips, so I assume that they tell him that at school.

He walked me down the stairs and opened the door for me and then showed me which car to get in (my car). He was quite the gentleman!
