I guess it really has been almost 2 months

It's hard to believe almost 2 months has passed since Mitchell's birthday and the last time I posted to his blog.

Not too much has been going on....December was a busy month. We took Mitchell to see Santa on December 1st. We went with our neighbors and I thought it would help if Mitchell saw his friends Victoria and Christian sit on Santa's lap. But that didn't help. He cried the second we started walking toward Santa. He wouldn't sit with him on the couch, so Santa's helper pulled up a pink plastic Dora chair for him to sit in beside Santa. Even that didn't help with the tears. Mitchell leaned as far away as he could from Santa while I took video of the whole thing and the photographer snapped pictures. Now we have three pictures of Mitchell crying with Santa! As we were leaving, Santa said, "I think that went well."

The following week my parents came to take care of Mitchell while Dave and I went to Montego Bay, Jamaica, for 4 days and 3 nights. We left early Wednesday morning (Granddad's birthday). I wasn't sure that I wanted to Mitchell to go with us to the airport, but he got upset and wanted to ride in the car with us. Although he did fine when we got out of the car at the airport and didn't cry at all. Grandmother and Granddad did a great job keeping Mitchell on his schedule and they didn't spoil him too much.

It didn't feel much like Christmas while we were in Jamaica...it was a nice break from the hustle and bustle! Even though the resort was decorated for the holidays, 85 degree weather doesn't seem to go with Christmas! We had a very relaxing trip. Unlike our honeymoon, there were absolutely no glitches this time around. The resort was 5 minutes from the airport, so we were eating lunch and enjoying our time away by 12:30 on Wednesday afternoon. It took some time getting used to the heat!

We spent the holidays in NC. Unfortunately Dave got strep throat the Friday before Christmas. So that delayed our departure to NC. We left Sunday morning and spent Christmas Eve with the Rawls side of the family. We went to church that evening for the Christmas Eve service. Mitchell didn't quite understand the concept of staying quiet. Granddad took him to the bathroom and when he was running back into the church, he fell right on his face and several people in the congregation (including me) got tickled. He really enjoyed holding and looking at the candle though...that seemed to finally get him to quiet down!

We opened gifts with Grandmother, Granddad, Kerri, Mark, Sarah, Sydney and Mason on Monday morning. Sydney and Mitchell had a ball opening the gifts and kept wanting to open another one. We left around lunchtime for Greensboro and spent the rest of the day with Grandma, Grandpa and Laurie.

When we got back from NC, we decided to transition Mitchell from his crib to a queen sized bed. The problem was the bed was buried underneath and a ton of baby stuff in a room in the basement. So we took everything out of the room in order to get to the bed. We moved the bed upstairs and were able to put the crib in the guest room without having to completely take it apart. We didn't know if we could put it back together later when we need it! So hopefully anyone who stays in the guest room doesn't mind the crib.

Mitchell has taken to his new bed really well. He napped in the bed the first day it was in his room. He didn't seem to miss the crib at all.

Mitchell is still enjoying the 3-year-old class at school. He comes home almost everyday with tales of something that Ashray did. I have never met Ashray, but whenever something bad happens to Mitchell at school, it's always Ashray's fault. Mitchell likes to take off his shoes during recess and his socks get covered in the wood chips from the playground. When I asked him how his socks got covered in wood chips, he said, "Ashray did it." If he has any kind of bump or bruise, it's always the same story..."Ashray did it." Ashray really gets around!

We had a thunderstorm the other night, which doesn't seem to bother Mitchell at all. But when it stopped thundering, he came to tell me that it had stopped and he asked me where the thunder went. I told him it went to someone else's house. And he said, "Did it go to Addy's house?" I said, "Yes, it's at Addy's house." Then he asked me if Addy was scared.

I'm not sure where he picked this up...but tonight when we got back from dinner and I went to take him out of his car seat, he said, "Nice to meet you" and shook my hand. It's time like that where you just can't help but laugh.

Mitchell has his first dentist appointment coming up on Wednesday. I will try to post an update about how that goes! It should be interesting to say the least.
