Mitchell's 2nd baseball game of the season was last night at 6:15pm. The Marlins played the Angels. And the Marlins won 4-2! It was close at the end, however, as the Angels batted last and at one point, had the bases loaded.
It was quite chilly for the game last night. All the parents were bundled up in jackets and blankets. We brought Macey out and wrapped her up in 2 blankets. She didn't seem to notice the cold at all. She got a little fussy at the end of the game, but she did really good considering she didn't have much of a 2nd nap yesterday (just a quick snooze in the car on the way to the ball field), it was cold and the game lasted until a little after 8pm.
Mitchell batted 3 times and had 3 hits! Or make that 4 hits if you count when the ball accidentally went into the arm of one of the Angels players. Oops! But he was OK. He might have a bruise today though. Luckily the guy running the pitching machine ducked because the ball probably would have hit him square in the head.
Mitchell played 3 different positions...catcher, left field and 1st base. I think he liked the action on 1st base the most.
League regulations state that the catcher has to wear a protective cup. I can tell it's not very comfortable for him and it's taking some getting used to. You can definitely tell who is wearing a cup by the way they are walking!
I never really thought I'd get into baseball, but there is something that gets fired up in me when Mitchell plays baseball. Dave sits there calmly, hardly batting an eye at anything while I'm screaming things like, "Hold the ball up!", "Run!", "Great swing!"
The 3rd baseman for the Angels was grabbing our players and holding onto them and not letting them run. I was almost out of my seat and across the field because I was so angry! I even got angry at one of our players when he was taunting the other players when they struck out. And this kid didn't have room to taunt because he didn't have a hit either!
Our next game is against the Cubs on Saturday morning. It's going to be chilly again! I think the low is in the 40s overnight. We have to be at the field by 8:30 for our 9am game. Mitchell tends to play and hit better during the Saturday games. I think all of the boys are just worn out and can't focus as well during the weeknight games. I saw so many of the boys twirling around, sitting on the ground and not paying attention during the game last night.
At least I don't yell at the umpire....not yet anyway.
