It’s the little things that make Mitchell happy – that make him laugh, giggle and smile.
It’s the little things that he does that make us happy – that make us laugh and make us proud to be his parents.
Mitchell’s school had a Spring Fling a couple of weeks ago. He had a ball playing with his friend, Catherine. If she wasn’t nearby, he was concerned about where she was. When it came time to leave and I put Mitchell’s shoes on, he picked up Catherine’s shoes, sweater and stuffed animal and took them over to where she was. He also shared his popcorn with her without my even having to ask him to do so. He loves being a little helper!
When I drop him off at school, he always wants to help one of the directors or he’ll help one of the teachers by carrying things for them from the kitchen to the classroom. When I am ready to leave, he opens the door for me and tells me which car to get in. He is really into hugging now and always asks for “big hugs” before I leave.
Be sure you call Mitchell by the right name! One morning on the way to school, he was coughing and I said, “Are you OK, buddy?” And he said, “I’m not Buddy, I’m Mitchell!”
Even though Mitchell has always liked listening to “The Wiggles” in the car, he has recently started singing along with the songs that he knows. When he knows I’m going to be in my car without him, he tells me to turn off The Wiggles and listen to the news.
Mitchell’s friend, Addy, turned 3 a couple of weeks ago and we went to her house for birthday cake. Her parents let her pick out a cake and they told us she picked dinosaurs because Mitchell liked dinosaurs. When they brought the cake out and told us this story, we all thought it was really sweet. But then Addy asked Mitchell if he liked dinosaurs and he said, “No.”
When we visited my grandparents in Raleigh a couple of weeks ago, Mitchell made multiple trips out to the car to bring in his “stuff” to show Grandmother and Granddad. He would lay something (like his portable DVD player) on the arm of Granddad’s chair and tell him what it was…and he quickly followed that up with the words, “It’s mine.” He showed him his DVDs and all 4 of his blankies and told Grandmother and Granddad each blanket’s “name”.
