Mitchell

The name of this blog was originally "All About Mitchell", so I'm going to make this post all about Mitchell!

Thursday, October 7th ranked very high on my list of great mommy days. I thought I would just explode with pride over Mitchell's accomplishments on that day.

It started with a parent teacher conference with his teacher, Ms. Buchanan. (NOTE: Much bragging to follow...but if I can't brag here, where can I brag?!)

She started off the conference by telling me how much she enjoys having Mitchell in her class and what a neat child he is. She said he has great ideas and is a joy to have in class. (I was relieved to hear this since all I hear is how BO-RING school is! Thankfully he has a much different attitude while in class.)

She showed me a math test that they children had taken just that week. It was a Fulton County test. We flipped through the test and I was surprised to see some of the concepts that he has learned and is able to apply. There were 41 questions on the test and he got all 41 right! He is a star when it comes to greater than and less than. (I'm not even good at that!) I was also impressed with his reasoning and analytical skills. He had to come up 5 different ways to add numbers to make 6 and then he had to do the same with subtraction. There were a few word problems that he got correct as well.

The teacher said that she and the other 1st grade teachers are coming up with an advanced math class and he will definitely be in that once they figure out the details.

He even showed off his math skills to me one night. We got home from school at 4:50pm. He had a baseball game at 6:15pm. He told me the game was in 85 minutes. I asked him how he figured that out. He said it was 10 minutes until 5pm. And from 5pm-6pm was 60 mins. So he added those 2 together and got 70 minutes. Then there was another 15 minutes to get to 6:15. So he added 70 + 15 and got 85. He came up with his answer well before I could have figured it out myself!

He is also a great reader even though he tells me he hates to read. He is reading well above his grade level.

His writing is also really good. He loves to write about sports and she said his team always wins and scores a lot of points. : ) I also saw a few stories about Macey which were very sweet.

I was thrilled with his great report and thought I would just explode with pride over well he's doing.

We went on to his baseball game that night where he did an outstanding job! His team lost, but they don't really seem to care....the boys just love to play. And Mitchell had a double play! He caught a fly ball and then tagged a runner out at 3rd base. He also 2 great hits.

He's also the greatest big brother. He still asks to hold Macey pretty much everyday and loves to snuggle with her. He said the other night that he wished she could sleep with him in his bed. I love seeing the two of them together. She will laugh at him and watches him when he's moving around the room.

It's hard to believe he'll be 7 in just a few short weeks. I'm just glad that he still fits on my lap and that he still wants to sit on my lap.
