It's been a while since I've updated everyone on Macey! She had her 1-year-old checkup on Monday, May 2nd. She did great up until it was time for shots. She was already mad because we made her lay down. So she was crying before the shots even started! I've never seen her cry like she did after she got the shots. She couldn't catch her breath and she was doing that hiccupy cry while she was trying to calm down. It took quite a while for her to calm down! I think next time we'll definitely bring her milk with us!
She weighed a little less than 23 lbs and is in the 90% percentile for height. She's doing great!
So at the time of her appointment, she was taking 1-2 steps at a time. And she seemed to only do it when we encouraged her. The pediatrician said one day it would be like a switch and she would just start walking all over the place. Well, I guess the doctor was right because she started toddling all over the place starting that very night! She would take more steps and seemed way more confident. Over the next few days, she would walk all over the den and she even started carrying things when she walked! She can get herself into a standing position all by herself. It's actually kind of cute. She looks like she's doing the downward dog yoga pose.
You can see from the video above that she loves to walk and push things around!
Just like Mitchell was at this age, she likes to be the center of attention. She likes to do things that make people laugh. At Mitchell's end of season baseball party a few weeks ago, she sat down on a step and then bent over and picked her sippy cup with her mouth instead of her hands. Of course when everyone laughed and smiled at her, she just kept doing it.
She has really gotten into climbing on things lately. It started with a small rocking chair. Now she's climbing onto the couch and climbing up onto the fireplace. She is stubborn, too; she does not give up! She keeps at something until she either does it by herself or she shrieks loud enough that someone comes running to be sure she hasn't cracked her head open!
Dave has taught her some bad habits as well. One of my pet peeves is the hand towels not being hung up in the kitchen. They "live" on the rack on the front of the stove. But Dave has a bad habit of pulling them off and leaving them all over the kitchen. Now Macey has taken to pulling them off and walking around the house with a couple of towels in her hands. I can never find a towel when I need one!
For some reason, it drives Macey crazy when we try to charge the computer. If the power cord is plugged into the back of the computer so we can charge it, she'll come along and yank it out. We can never fully charge the computer!
Another funny thing she does is when she's eating. We pull her highchair close to the table and she'll grab whoever is nearby and try to pull them closer to her. So that means she's usually grabbing me or Mitchell. She'll grab onto my shirt sleeve and yank me closer or she'll try to grab his chair and she'll pull herself closer to him.
We're all having a blast watching Macey grow and learn new things. We love her babbling and we just know she'll be talking before we know it!
