What a difference a (school) year makes!

Since Mitchell started school 3 years ago, I try to remember to take a picture on the first day of school and on the last day of school. It's harder to remember to take one on the last day of school, but luckily I did remember this year!

The last day of school was Friday, May 27. The school year went by way too fast for me. I'm sure Mitchell feels differently though. He wouldn't admit it to me, but I think he did get a little bit sad about the end of the school year. We left for the beach Friday afternoon and I showed him a letter and a poem that his teacher put in everyone's report card folder. He got really quiet after than and hid underneath his blanket. He really liked his teacher and worked hard to please her, so I know he's going to miss her a lot.

We had a great year. He had Ms. Buchanan as his teacher. She did a great job of getting him excited about math and he really excelled over the course of the year. I think she saw a glimmer of interest in math and then she encouraged and challenged him throughout the year and turned that glimmer into a full-fledged fire! I'm glad he's so interested in math and I hope his excellent math skills continue throughout his school years. He asks for math problems when we're in the car and is even doing multiplication tables now. It's too bad that I am not so good at math because sometimes I think his answer is wrong even though it's right!

He also got a 100 on every single spelling test he took. He takes after me in this area. : )

We really couldn't be more proud of all that he accomplished over the course of the year. And look how much he grew and changed over the school year! (And look how our house changed, too! We had the house painted and got new gutters in April.)
