14 Months Old!

Wow...Macey was 14 months old on June 26th. It's so hard to believe....these past 14 months have flown by. And soon I'll be saying, "Wow! She's 14 years old!"

So what has Macey been up to? She loves to climb. She climbs more than I remember Mitchell climbing at this age. Her favorite thing do is climb into this child-size chair we have in the den. She'll lean against the back of the chair until it falls against the couch and then she'll climb onto the couch. If she doesn't have some way to climb up onto the couch, she will let you know that she is unhappy and wants to be on the couch. She also likes to climb on the glass coffee table in the den. So we quickly moved that out of the den! She also likes to "help" when we are loading and unloading the dishwasher.

Her newest thing is saying "ut oh". But she pauses between the "ut" and the "oh" when she says it. She usually says it when she throws food on the floor. I'm trying to teach her that it's not an "ut oh" when she purposely throws food on the floor!

She still likes to unplug the cable from the computer when we're trying to charge it. She will also come up to the computer and pull down on the screen. Luckily our laptop screen is made to bend like that!

She loves Crocs! When Mitchell was doing swim team in June, she of course would go to the pool with Dave and Mitchell. Dave said she would walk around collecting Crocs. She likes to get them and put them on her hands. So when we were at the beach in June, we went to the Crocs outlet and I got her a pair of Crocs. But as we were walking through the store (she was in her stroller), she was pulling Crocs off the wall and putting them on her hands.

She finally likes water! For the longest time, Macey would cry and scramble to get out of the bathtub during bathtime. Bathtime was never much fun because it's not very easy to hold onto a wet, soapy baby! But when we were at the beach, she decided to get into the blow up pool and she splashed her hands and had a great time. So now she's finally enjoying her baths. We've also taken her to the neighborhood pool a few times.

She's not saying any intelligible words yet, but she sure thinks she's talking to you when she marches up to you and starts saying things. She is so intent on getting her point across. I really wish we knew what she was trying to say! She "yells" at Mitchell as well.

She loves to come into our bathroom and go through my makeup drawer. She picks out what she likes and carries it around with her. She loves anything that is her size and fits right into her hand. And she is not happy if what she picks out is something that I need to get ready in the morning and I claim it as mine instead of letting her have it.

Macey loves going into Mitchell's room for some reason. And she knows when his door has been left open or when he goes in there even if she doesn't see him go into his room. She can be in the den and I'll open his door to put laundry away and then I'll see her little blond head pop around the corner and she'll rush into his room. She's even gone in there a few times and no one has noticed and she'll close the door. A few weeks ago, he had a tube of candy that he bought at Target and he put it on his nightstand. Well, she wanted it because it was just the right size for her little hand. One night, she was up later than he was because she had taken a late nap and when he went to bed, she walked right in there and took the tube off of his nightstand. She's pretty sneaky!

She is so happy in the morning and after her nap. She doesn't really cry when she wakes up. She will talk to herself for a little bit or she'll push the button that turns on the music for her mobile. She will eventually start yelling for someone to come and get her. I was home with her during the week last week and she was so cute when I went in to get her up from her nap. She was just laying in her crib playing with her blanket and listening to her music. When she heard me, she immediately got up and walked over to the mobile and pushed the button to turn it off. I guess she's seen Dave and me do it enough times that she knows to turn it off now when naptime is over. It's just always amazing to see these little sparks of knowledge going off and she's making connections like that.

We stayed at a local hotel over the July 4th holiday and had a little "staycation". She loved the hotel room! There was so much for her to explore. Her favorite thing was opening the drawers and cabinets and putting stuff in them. I had to thoroughly inspect the room before we checked out to be sure she hadn't hidden something! I did find a toy ball in one of the drawers in the TV stand.

Macey loves to be held...although sometimes she just acts like she wants to be held when in reality she has ulterior motives. Like last night for example. I was sitting on the couch and she came up to me and started looking at me when her big blue eyes and started whining and putting her arms up. So I picked her up so she could sit in my lap and cuddle. But she didn't want anything to do with cuddling. She struggled to get out of my arms and leaned over the back of the couch to check out the things that I had purposely put on the table so they were not within her reach. She is a sneaky one! She is very good at figuring out ways to get something that she knows she's not supposed to have!

Shh...don't tell Dave this. But I do enjoy putting her to bed. At least on the nights when she's tired and goes to bed easily! We rock in the rocking chair in her dark room with the white noise in the background. And shh...don't tell Dr. Bowman...she takes her bottle...strike that...I hold her bottle for her while she rubs her hand on my chest or my back. She loves milk just as much as Mitchell did at this age and it makes her soooo sleepy when it's nice and dark and we're rocking. I'm making myself sleepy just thinking about it! When she's done, I put her up on my shoulder although it's not necessary to burp her, but that is how I know if she's ready for bed. She will lay her head on my shoulder and just be still. So sometimes I'll rock her for a few extra minutes because it's nice to enjoy this quiet time with her because it is so rare. I put her down in the crib and cover her with her blanket. Sometimes she might cry out once or twice. But most of the time she'll throw her arms up over her head and just drift off to sleep. I'd wake up happy as well if someone put me to bed like that! : )
