My little math whiz!

Mitchell really blew me away yesterday with his math skills. Maybe this is normal for a 7 1/2 year old. It just doesn't seem normal to me because I'm not this good at math! LOL.

We were with friends at the pool and they had just gone to King's Island in Ohio and we were also talking about Cedar Point (also in OH). I told Mitchell that Daddy wants to go there because it's near where he grew up, but he moved away when he was 3 years old. Mitchell asked me how old Grandpa and Grandma were when they moved from Ohio to NC. I told him I had no clue! I guessed that maybe they were in their 30s.

But that wasn't a good enough answer for Mitchell. He asked me what year Grandpa was born. So I told him. Then he just sat there and I thought he was satisfied with my answer. Then he pipes up and says, "You're wrong, Mommy!" I asked, "Wrong about what?" (Because frankly I had moved on from the subject.) "Grandpa wasn't in his 30s when they moved," Mitchell said. "He was 29!"

I am not good at doing math in my head...especially when it comes to adding and subtracting years. And especially when it comes to spanning different decades. So this morning I remembered our converation and brought up a calculator on my computer and did the math.

And sure enough...Mitchell was right (!!). Grandpa was 29 when they moved from OH to NC. (I hope I got his birth year right...I think it's the same as my Mom's. My in-laws can correct me if I have the year wrong!)
