Still Catching Up

Part of the reason I haven't had time to blog is it's baseball season again! I love baseball season and look forward to it every season. We had evaluations at the end of February and practice started the first week of March. Lucky for us, it's been a really warm winter and spring! It was probably in the 80s on opening day and it was the middle of March!

Mitchell is on the Giants this season. We have a new coach and don't know many kids on the team this season. You'd think after playing for 4 seasons now, he would have more kids on his team that he knows!

He's been playing great so far. This is his 2nd season playing 1st base. He loves being on 1st and seeing so much action. His defensive skills have really improved and he's gotten a lot of outs on 1st...either by catching the ball after another teammate fields it and throws it to him, or fielding the ball himself and hustling over to 1st and tagging the base.

Unfortunately he's had a few strikeouts. I know it was bound to happen, but he batted .1000 when he played last summer and also during the fall baseball season. So it was disappointing to see his streak end!

He's still doing great in school as well. He's gotten all As on his report card and made the Honor Roll. He's in 3rd grade math and has an 100 average in Math right now. He also does great with spelling, but not so great with reading comprehension. Luckily his other Language Arts grades are good so they pull up his reading comprehension scores. I think he just cannot slow down long enough to read something and then answer questions about it. He can be fast with Math and not make mistakes so he thinks he can be just as fast in every other subject.

This summer he will be going away to an overnight summer camp for a week. He's really excited about it! I feel like he's ready and he thinks he's ready as well. I can't wait to see what his experience is like and how he does. I really doubt that he'll get homesick. I think he'll be having too much fun the whole time!

He's trying out for a summer select baseball team on Sunday. This is the first time he can try out so we're excited and nervous. We have no idea what the process is. Mitchell's first question was if he has games out of state will we be taking a plane to get there. Unfortunately for him, all of the games are in the Atlanta area so there will be no flying anywhere! Of course he has to make the team first.

He is still very much into weather. In the morning when he gets up, he turns on the Weather Channel and watches "Wake Up With Al". He likes to check the weather in other states and countries. He seems to prefer warmer climates and often tells me that he wants to move to Miami. He knows which states are under severe thunderstorm watches or tornado warnings.

Maybe he'll be able to use his love of weather and math one day in his career!
