While it might seem like it's been forever, it has not been 41, 10 or 2 years since I've blogged! But those are the big milestones our family hit in April!
April is a crazy month for us now. Dave celebrated his 41st birthday on April 3. Of course his birthday is always overshadowed by Mitchell's spring break, which is always the first week of April. I tried to age Dave before his birthday by thinking he was already 41 and would be turning 42. That's mommy brain for you.
On April 13, Dave and I celebrated 10 years of marriage. Sometimes it does feel like 10 years and sometimes it feels like our wedding was just yesterday. I still remember so many of the details of that day.
In a little over week, Macey will be turning 2! Since April has been so busy and crazy, I haven't had much time to plan a birthday party for her. We are having a small together with friends. Hopefully she won't hold it against us if she ever compares her birthday party pictures to Mitchell's! We've just learned over the years that smaller is better when they are so young.
We've been working with Macey on her numbers and she can now hold up 2 fingers and she'll say that she's 2 years old when you ask. She tries to count to 10. Most days she gets all of the numbers in the right order. Other days she might skip over a few numbers. She always claps and says "YAY!" when she reaches 10.
She loves giving hugs and blowing kisses. I don't think the male cashiers at Target find it as amusing or cute as the female cashiers when Macey blows kisses as we're walking out of the store. She loves to wave and say "bye bye" as well. Most people don't usually get just one "bye bye" from her. She says it over and over and over again.
She still loves Elmo. Although in the last few weeks she has taken to loving on her baby dolls. She tries to powder them and put diapers on them. She hugs her dolls and carries them around in her arms.
She has developed quite a temper though. She has started throwing tantrums when she doesn't get her way now. I don't remember Mitchell being quite as dramatic as she is.
I wish I could ask her about her preferences for clothes and having her hair in her face all the time. She has started getting picky about what she'll wear. I have to hold up her shirts and let her pick out the one that she'll wear. And it changes daily. She might wear a shirt one day, but the next time you try to put it on her, she will most likely pitch a fit. She'll come up to me and say "hair" so I'll brush her hair and pull it back in a clip or put it in a ponytail to get it out of her face. Then she promptly pulls the clip or band out. Then she just sticks it on her head like it's going to adhere to her hair that way.
We always joke that when she's in her one of her moods, the funniest thing is she'll take something from you just so she can throw it back at you. If she's upset and we try to give her some milk or a toy, she'll take it from you and make you think that she's going along with you. But then she'll just fling it right at your head or feet or whatever she is aiming for.
Even though she's younger, she does seem to "mother" Mitchell. When we sit down for a meal, if he's not at the table, she'll start yelling, "Mitchell! Mitchell!" One time I was home on a school day and we were going somewhere and she started yelling for him up the stairs.
She definitely loves her big brother and the feeling is mutual. I often find them snuggling together in Mitchell's bed. He'll put on shows that she'll like instead of subjecting her to the shows that he enjoys watching. I was surprised one morning to hear The Wiggles coming from the TV...then I realized he had turned it on for her.
I'll catch everyone up on Mitchell tomorrow!
