We have this magnetic calendar on our fridge and it was a nice surprise to see that my Dad had filled it out for us. Today (January 6th), I finally erased it and filled it in for January. November is extra special now that we celebrate 2 birthdays along with Thanksgiving.
I could do without Daylight Savings Time though! As a side note...I wondered how they would change all of the clocks in the hospital. I happened to be up with Miller at 2am on Sunday morning and all of the sudden, the hands on the clock started moving. If I had taken pain pills, I would have thought I was seeing things!
My c-section was scheduled for 8:15am, so we had to be at the hospital by 6:15am. Surprisingly, both kids woke up so we got to see them before we left. We got checked in and were taken to the same pre-op room that we were in when I had Macey. Our nurse was great except she had trouble getting my IV in. She tried once on my right hand and hit a valve (ouch!). So she called someone else in. It was around 7am at this time because I remember telling Dave to turn the Today Show on so I could see Matt Lauer while I had to endure being stuck by all of these needles.
This nurse tried higher up on my hand closer to my wrist and she also had issues. Meanwhile, the phlebotomist came in to take some blood. They asked her to wait until they got the IV in, but she was extremely impatient and insisted on taking blood without the IV being in. So she took it from my right arm. Now they were limited to where they could try because they didn't want to stick me where she had just taken blood. So they moved to my left arm (which was in a splint because of my broken finger). Luckily they got it in with no issues. However, it was in my forearm, which made it harder for me to use that arm and I ended up pulling it out early in the morning on Friday.
Then we got word that the doctor would be delayed. For someone who is always on time, this was not good news! I was ready to get going. Luckily she wasn't delayed for long. The epidural went in with no issues. Although this time around, I felt sick, which I hadn't experienced with my other 2 epidurals.
I don't know what time we got started, but Miller Grant was born at 9:01am.
Dr. Angela Nix delivered him (she also delivered Macey). She had us guess his weight before she started. The perinatal doctor estimated that he would be 10 lbs, 7 oz. I guessed he would be 8 lbs, 15 oz. I think I was in denial about having a 9 or 10 lb baby! When they called out his Apgar score, they said 9, 9 and I thought that was his weight. But they don't weigh them in the operating room. They get weighed when they go to get cleaned up. Dave went with him and got some good pictures. The official weight was 9 lbs, 6 oz.
It seemed to take forever for them to finish up with me. I was so anxious to see Miller again. Finally they took me into the recovery room and I got to see him finishing up his bath.
I was also trying to send out the "he's here" email, but wasn't having much luck with Gmail on my phone. I primarily wanted to get word to Mitchell's teacher that Miller had arrived and I wanted to send her a picture so Mitchell could see him. I was finally able to get an email to her while his class was at lunch. She emailed me back and told me that she printed out the picture and posted it on the white board in the classroom so everyone could see it when they got back from lunch.
We got moved to a room pretty quickly and got settled in. Mom and Dad brought Mitchell and Macey to visit after Mitchell got out of school.
Mitchell is such a proud big brother!
I'm not sure that Macey quite understood what was going on, but she wanted to be a part of it!
He was jaundiced and had to be on the lights except when I was feeding him. Luckily this only lasted about 24 hours.
Big sister Macey was excited to feed him.
