Didn't realize how long it's been since I posted! Wow.
I started my new job at ADP on June 13th. So far, everything is going well. Everyone is very nice and there is a group of mothers here who get together once a month for lunch. And they have invited me to join them. A lot of people on my team have kids around Mitchell's age. The nice thing about is 1. having people to get advice from; and 2. the understanding you get when your child has an ear infection!
Speaking of ear infections...Mitchell had one on June 20th (in honor his great aunt Bonnie's b-day). He was fine when he came home from school. I took him for a walk in the neighborhood and he started nodding off, which is very unusual. When I got him home, he was burning up. We needed a new thermometer, so Dave went and got one. His fever was 104.7. So I called the ped's office, but we didn't get a call back until 9 pm. The nurse that called said to take him to the children's ER. So off we go. We are checking in at the front desk and one of my new co-workers walks in right behind us! We both had to laugh even though we both had sick children. So that was a good bonding experience for us to get to know each other and she could also back up my story since I took 1/2 day off the next day!
We got a prescription and stopped on the way home to pick it up. So we didn't get home and into bed until 12:30 am - 1:00 am. Mitchell slept great...only waking up around 5 am when his fever broke. Dave and I split shifts the next day and he was playing and acting like he felt fine. So recovery was very quick for him! It took Dave and I longer to recover from the lack of sleep.
The ear infection came right after a visit to NC to see Dave's parents. We were so glad that he didn't get sick while we were out of town. Mitchell had a great time helping Grandma celebrate her birthday as well as helping Grandpa celebrate Father's Day! He really took to Aunt Laurie and loved playing outside with her. He cried and stood at the door when she went outside briefly to move her car.
My parents came to visit over the July 4th holiday. We (and by we, I mean Dad) got a lot of stuff done around the house...when Mitchell would let him. It took Mitchell a little while to warm up to him, even though Dad brought him a working cell phone to play with. By the time we got to Olive Garden for dinner, Mitchell was sitting in between Mom and Dad. When Dad's spaghetti came, Mitchell was eating off of his plate. Dad had a hard time dodging those tomato-y hands of his! Mom and I had to run interference and attempt to keep Mitchell out of Dad's way while he was working. Mitchell especially liked to stand at the bottom of the ladder when Dad was up on it. He would just stand there with his arms up waiting for Dad to pick him up. He did get to make a few trips up the ladder with Dad. When Mitchell would get upset, we would take him outside or run errands to distract him so Dad could get stuff done.
Mitchell said a couple of new words over the weekend. Dave gave him a bite of ice cream and when Mitchell made a face, Dave told him it was cold. Mitchell said more and when he got a 2nd bite, Mitchell said "cold". He also said "airplane" when he saw one outside over the weekend.
His other "new" thing is to shake his head and say "no" when you ask him a question. It doesn't matter what you ask him, the answer is always no. And he looks like he's seriously considering the question before he answers with no.
Mitchell is still into climbing. He loves climbing on the kitchen table. If we don't hear anything from the kitchen, we know that he's looking out the bay window or he's on the table. As you can see from the picture above, he's quite proud of himself!
At daycare, they have taught the children to put their sippy cups in the sink when they are done. So of course he has to do that at home as well. But he does it in the kitchen and the bathroom and he also puts other things in the sink (like paper towels or other trash).
They also have taught them about washing their hands. Last night he was in the bathroom with me while I was washing my hands. He stood at the other sink and put his hands up and gave me a look as if to say, "Why aren't I washing my hands?" I just had to laugh at his expression.
As of yesterday, his new favorite toy is this cheap frisbee we got in an arcade at the beach in May. It's just a ring that you throw. He found it in his toy chest and took to wearing it on his head last night. It was especially funny when he was dancing in just his polo shirt and diaper with the ring on his head. He took it to bed with him! That is how much he was loving this toy yesterday.
Those are all of the stories I can think of right now. I promise I won't get behind again!!
