He and I both had doctor's appointments that day, so I took the day off and decided to bring cupcakes to school. I got to school at 11:30 -- just in time for lunch. Although I had headed to McAlister's at 11:00 for a chicken salad sandwich and their yummy chicken tortilla soup. The lunchroom was absolutely crazy. But I had fun with Mitchell and his friends. After everyone finished their lunch, Mitchell and I passed out the cupcakes.
After lunch, I had signed up to be the mystery reader for his class. In keeping with the theme, I brought If You Give a Cat a Cupcake to read to the class. The teacher even had the stuffed cat that goes along with the book.
So that was Monday and it wasn't even Mitchell's birthday yet!
After having Japanese-style food at Epcot last January, Mitchell decided that is one of his favorite foods now. So we told him we would take him for his birthday. His birthday fell on a Friday and by the time he got home from after-school care, he was tired and just wanted to stay in. So we headed to Benihana on Saturday for lunch instead. It worked out well for me since I’ve been having issues with indigestion/heartburn at night. So eating a bigger lunch works better for me.
Luckily we arrived right when they opened and there wasn’t a huge crowd or lots of people coming in at the same time, because Mitchell insisted that he didn’t want anyone else sitting at our table. Thankfully it worked out although we had told him other people might have to sit with us.
Our chef was OK. He certainly didn’t go out of his way to entertain us. Maybe the “show” is better at night. But Mitchell still enjoyed it and had a good time.

Then it was time to celebrate Mitchell's birthday with the family back in NC! On Thanksgiving night, Granddad grilled steaks for all of us. I told Mitchell that is what he used to make for my birthday dinner and I was sure he would do the same for Mitchell. The steaks were absolutely delicious. Grandmother also made potato and carrot casserole to go with it and we all filled up on that as well.
Then we headed to Greensboro to celebrate Thanksgiving/Mitchell's birthday with the Preslans. We had a Spongebob cake, which Mitchell loved.
Mitchell was able to spread out his birthday celebrations over a 3-week period. He knows how to do it right!
