Since we made the big baby announcement on Facebook yesterday, we decided it was also time to tell Mitchell that we’re having a baby in April. We had held off until this point because of my previous two miscarriages.
So we both sat him down and Dave asked him if he would like to have a baby sister. He said, “I bet not.” We then told him we were having a baby in April and we thought we were having a girl. He made it clear that he would rather have a brother. Then he asked, “How did they make the baby?” I told him that God helped put the baby in my tummy. He contemplated that for a moment and then asked, “Will it hurt to take it out?” I told him it would hurt for a little bit, but that I would be fine.
Then we asked him if wanted to move into the guest room. We told him that since he’s the big brother, he can pick whichever room he wants. He said he wanted to move into the guest room. I asked him what color he would want to paint the room and of course he said orange. Then he said black and I think we finally settled on green. He kept saying, “Aunt Kerri will be so surprised.” I told him we would figure something out when she comes to stay with us.
Then he said that the baby could sleep in his room. I told him the baby would cry at night and wake him up. He said, “That’s OK. I’ll come and get you.”
He doesn’t seem interested in helping with diapers yet. But I’m sure that will change once the baby arrives. I imagine he’s going to be extremely protective and will help to take care of his baby sister (or brother). Although we're all adjusting to the idea of a girl at this point. It will be quite a change after raising a boy for 6 1/2 years (by the time the baby is born). Hopefully selling off the boy clothes I've accumulated for 6 years will pay for part of a wardrobe for a baby girl!
