Energetic

Energetic

That is how Mitchell's teacher's described his behavior at school yesterday.

We get a sheet at the end of each day telling us about his day (what he ate, how long he slept, diaper changes). There is a list of adjectives that his teachers can use to describe his behavior for that day. There are adjectives like chatty, curious, friendly, quiet and energetic. Energetic is almost always checked along with "chatty"; however, yesterday was the first day the word energetic was checked and underlined.

So I asked his teacher, Paula, what that meant. She said he was running full-force all day long yesterday. She joked with me that he must have had some coffee before he came in! In the morning, she said, he was running up and down the halls. If a child come into the classroom and the door was open, Mitchell would "escape" and run the halls.

By the way, quiet has never been a word that they have used to describe Mitchell.

I think he was just trying to get to the Pre-K classroom where Nemo the fish is. Ever since Paula showed him that room, he's been fascinated and wants to go in there every morning. Obviously this room has a lot more interesting stuff than his room and it's a lot bigger.

I realized on Sunday that he's starting to say his colors. He can say blue, purple and red. Yellow is a little hard. This morning, his teacher was putting up a blue background on a bulletin board and I pointed to it and asked him what color it was. He clearly said, "Blue". And then I got him to say purple (since that is my favorite color). Then he moved to the bulletin board with pictures of the kids from the school. Paula would ask him to point out kids from his class and he was doing it and saying their names (Gracie and Daniel). Then I asked him where Addy was and he looked at me and put out his arms as if to say, "I don't know". And then he said her name.

It's just amazing how fast his vocabulary is taking off. He repeats lots of words now like bed, shirt, shoes, cheese and please. If he's in the mood, he'll pretty much repeat what you say. Although he's not saying Mitchell. He's started sounding out his letters (A, B, C).

I just remembered a story when I said that he can say the word "shoes". It's kind of pitiful. I think this happened when Kerri was staying with us for the weekend and she watched Mitchell while we went out to eat one night. He knew we were getting ready to leave. And he thought he was coming with us. So he went and got his shoes and tried to put them on. I felt so bad that he wasn't coming with us!
